LED Lighting
Why LED's?
The principal advantage that LED's have over incandescent, CFL and flourescent tube lighting is their low energy consumption, while, at the same time providing bright light in a full spectrum of colors.
It has been estimated that replacing standard lighting with LED's can save as much as 75% in energy use for lighting over incandescent lights, and up to 50% over CFL's and flourescents, with the added feature of being benign in it's composition, containing no toxic chemicals such as mercury (as CFL's and flourescents do) and they generate MUCH less heat than either incandescent or flourescent lights, so the need for air conditioning is also reduced.
One of the factors that have slowed the advent of LED lighting into mainstream use is that the initial cost of LED lights has been higher than the more common options. Howerver, When you factor in the fact that LED's last up to 10 times longer than either incandescents or flourescents, give off NO harmful radiation (as CFL's do) the cost factor is reduced considerably. All of our LED products are rated at between 30,000 and 60,000 hours of continuous use, compared to as little as 5,000 - 8,000 for incandescents and CFLs.
The light provided by our high-power LED's is stead, bright and cool, with no flicker (every had a flickering flourescent tube to contend with?) plus they are instantly bright, when turned on.
Now, it's even possible to switch completely to LED lighting systems without making significant changes to your wiring, or fixtures. Most of our LED bulbs use the same 'edison screw' to plug in to your light fixtures that you are already familiar with, and even replacements for flourescent tube lights are available that can use the same fixtures your old bulbs did, with a very minor modification.
LED lighting is definitely the wave of the future, and we are continously finding more and better applications for this 'green' technology.

Aside from the simple energy savings LED's offer consumers across the board, the single most important reason for doing away with all CFL's and flourescent lighting is the toxic Mercury they contain. Many users are unaware that they risk dangerous toxic chemical exposure from a simple broken CFL bulb, and the effects of MORE toxic mercury polluting our environment as these bulbs enter Hawaii's landfills can only increase the problem that already exists with widespread mercury pollution in our soils, water and ocean. (See video, right column).
Hawaii is a special place, and it's beauty is renowned world-wide. It's our "malama aina" (caring for our environment) that keeps Hawaii beautifully unspoiled and healthy. LED's offer a way to preserve that legacy for future generations of Hawaii's people.
