I am sure that many of you know that mercury contamination in the environment has turned out to be greater than anticipated. It has ended up in our food chain. It has made some fish “unconsumable.”

Additionally, The Government's push to save on energy by mandating the use of CFLs and other fluorescents was counter-productive. All of these were great until you tried to throw them out, because they all contain dangerous amounts of lethal mercury. The Hazardous Waste disposal of mercury in the spent CFLs has a huge environ-mental impact without significant savings in energy consumption.

What I am proposing is that we do something about it today and I believe that saving customers money on electricity with a transition to the newest high tech LEDs is the answer. The truth is, the savings can be sometimes as much as fifty to seventy five percent. This is good for everybody and our island gets no more lethal mercury dumped in our landfills.
